Linking Digital Heritage, Games and Virtual Tourism: Erik Champion

This talk will examine how key challenges in digital heritage involving 3D models could be brought to life and re-opened to interpretation by game design, and how game-like interaction could also help increase the richness and immersive qualities of XR (extended reality) and virtual tourism.

Cultural heritage in a virtual fantasy world: Heiða Rafnsdóttir, Partity Games

A short overview of the journey of an item from 1400-1600 being found in the 19th century, ending up in the National Museum of Iceland. Where it became a part of the museum's main exhibition for 20 years. In 2023 the item was 3D scanned and gained a new life and purpose within the computer game Island of Winds.

Digital Statues, a collaborative project: Þröstur Thor Bragason, Efla

Digital statues (stafrænar styttur) is a collaborative project between the Einar Jónsson museum and EFLA Consulting engineers in Iceland. It received support from “Barnamenningarsjóður” (children´s culture fund) and “List fyrir alla” (art for everyone). The purpose of the project is to bring the Einar Jónsson museum to schoolchildren in a digital form, regardless of their location.

XR in Thingvellir and Hofsstaðir: Sunna Björk Mogensen, Gagarin

Gagarin Interactive has developed XR experiences for several cultural heritage projects in Iceland. Two specific outdoors sites, Thingvellir and Hofsstaðir in Garðabær, where visitors can look into the past are highlighted in this talk. Each site has a different approach for technology used to create the XR experiences.
