About SUB

Tourism is a pivotal industry in arctic and peripheral areas. Especially biking tourism is an emerging sector having potential to contribute to economic diversification and resilience in remote areas. The project aims to support the sustainable growth of biking tourism sector in the NPA areas. During the project, the partner consortium together with different biking tourism actors will explore, pilot and test the marketplace possibilities and practical solutions in sustainable biking tourism development.

What we do

SUB project aims to transfer and develop entrepreneurial skills and sustainable business models in biking tourism in collaboration with micro and SMEs. SUB partners see biking tourism as an emerging sector having the potential to contribute to economic diversification and resilience in remote areas. Enhancing the economic growth of the local micro and SMEs will play a pivotal role in achieving growth and increasing employment. SUB will be used to develop the industry’ among the young generation.

Transnational approach with local implementation

The SUB project has six partners in five countries, namely Finland, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Ireland and Sweden. Partners collaborate transnationally with aim of identifying gaps and finding solutions to develop cycling tourism. The practical implementation happens in dialogue with entrepreneurs, developers and other stakeholders within the local ecosystems. The partners have a wide array of experience in researching, mentoring, networking and promoting micro & SMEs, providing the means to support the growth and diversification of the sustainable tourism sector through the use of innovative tools and platforms. The SUB collaboration aims to increase the impact of the industry by harnessing local knowledge and ensuring effective and practical solutions and tools are developed, acknowledging the region and local specifications.

Our mission

Our mission is to support the capacity building of sustainable tourism in regional micro and SMEs working in different points of service chain. Also to support the capacity building of different actors supporting the micro and SMEs with their development goals, and working with destination management. Regional master plans creating a framework to develop operational environment of sustainable biking tourism in the coming years
