Explore the achievements of Interreg NPA projects!

The Interreg NPA Programme has connected communities across the Northern Periphery and Arctic regions for over 20 years. These collaborations have made a positive impact on local people, organisations and businesses. In this publication we feature the achievements from the 2014-2020 funding period, while the next Interreg NPA projects mature.

Driving positive change

The solutions developed by NPA projects positively impact communities in the Programme area and bring measurable changes. These changes were for example raising awareness, influencing policies, changing attitudes and behaviours, or reducing environmental impacts.

Discover how NPA projects improved the lives of people in remote areas in the Arctic and near-Arctic in our newly published Guide to Achievements!

Raising awareness about crucial topics

Out of 16 different impacts reported by the projects funded in the 2014-2020 period, 90% indicated that they raised awareness about crucial topics among a wider public.

Cooperation projects provide an excellent platform for bringing a topic to the attention of a wider public. Projects can bring a transnational and socially relevant theme to the public’s and politicians’ attention, such as plastic pollution, increased marine traffic, sustainable tourism, or youth entrepreneurship.

The ARCTISEN project promoted culturally sensitive tourism in the Arctic, a new concept for many NPA countries.

Challenging the way people think about something

Transnational cooperation is a great opportunity to share new concepts and practices, break stereotypes, and inspire others to challenge their ways of life. 83% of the main projects reported that they challenged the way people think about something and influenced how people behave and what decisions they make.

By fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment, the W-POWER project addressed the unique needs of underrepresented groups, including women, Indigenous people, and immigrants, when starting their own business.

These are just two examples of how Interreg NPA projects brought change for communities, businesses, and people living in remote and peripheral areas.
